THE CHAIRMAN

2007 was another year of progress for Poynton Sports Club. We said goodbye to long standing Bar Chairman Geoff Spurrell and were lucky enough to recruit Phil Bailey as a very able replacement.

Phil has worked with our new Club Manager, Duncan Shenton, to produce a really dynamic team, dedicated to offering a top quality service to our members and guests.

With Sky Sports on a big screen projector television, good beer, good food and a great social programme we hope you will all be happy to make use of our rapidly improving social facilities.

Mike Walton and Eric Rogers have similarly worked together to deliver major improvements to our changing facilities with new ladies toilets and work in progress on disabled access and facilities.

We produced a comprehensive Development Strategy in 2007 from which has come the proposal to dispose of a small area of our site which we believe can generate a very significant capital receipt to help us transform our playing and social facilities both on site and off site.

As part of the development process we want to make sure we spend any funds generated as efficiently as possible for all members and the community of Poynton so we like all members to think how they can help, in any way, large or small. What skills have you got – are you an accountant who can help with budgets, a project manager who can help manage building works, can you help with publicity, putting up fencing, running a social function?

On the playing side our Lacrosse Section took the award for best section but our Hockey and Bowls were hot on their heels with fabulous seasons for all three.

Of particular pleasure is the continuing development of our Junior sports which provide a fabulous service to the young people of Poynton and demonstrate real success on the field.

Let’s hope the new seasons are as successful for all our sports – we look forward to seeing you, your friends and family at Poynton Sports Club.
